Artist Johanna van den Berg

Johanna van den Berg (1953) is an artist from the Netherlands. Her father, an architect, was undoubtedly her earliest source of inspiration for drawing geometrical lines and figures. As her artwork evolved, she dared to overstep the boundaries of geometry and anatomy. Overall, her style is characterized by cubism with an abundance of shapes, angles and lines, often combined with very expressive human figures.

Exclusively in black, white and grayscale, she plays with the position and size of the facial characteristics, especially with the eyes. The subjects and figures are being sketched from different perspectives and angles, She experiences every piece as an adventure on paper, surprising even herself with the result.

Strangely enough: although I am extremely optimistic by nature, there is often a certain sadness in my drawings."
